We had a very fun and successful family campout at Von Oven campout this past weekend! The weather turned out to be great, better than expected, with no rain at all. Over 100 cubs and family converged on the little hidden Naperville campground at around 4:30pm. The Webelos sparked up the fire with flint and steel, but eventually we just used a lighter to get the rather wet kindling going. Dinner was a camping-style culinary delight, with hotdogs cooked in foil packs over the coals and all you could eat sides, salads, and chips. There was so much food for dinner that we ended up with a box full of extra bags of chips, which will be donated to Loaves and Fishes food pantry. S'mores for desert topped off the evening, with the boys telling jokes and stories around the fire. Flashlight tag, Ghost in the graveyard, Flashlight capture the flag, and a night hike keep the boys busy until lights-out. A highlight of the night hike was when the girl siblings banded together and scared the wits out of the boys by running ahead and hiding behind trees and leaping out at them and screaming. I think the boys thought they were being attacked by ghouls by the way they screamed! We had over 80 people camp over and stay for breakfast, with pack 888 providing a delicious continental-style breakfast, with muffins, bagels, coffee, orange juice and milk. Special thanks goes to Debbie Clemens and Lisa McIntyre for planning the dinner, Dan Vitous and Scott Sampson for planning breakfast, Scott Sampson for the field and night games, and all the helpful families that helped cook, bring side dishes for dinner and haul trash out for the pack. Without your help, it would not have been a success, and we appreciate all your time and effort! Lost and Found: Lost: One of our campers lost a CUBS baseball cap, if you have aquired one, please let me know. Found: Black 2-D cell flashlight with yellow switch (Eveready brand) Jensen Crank (self powered) flashlight - You can claim them at the next pack meeting on October 19th, or contact us to come pick them up sooner. |
